Imagine Dragons, from Las Vegas, are fast becoming a sensation across the Atlantic. Yet not many people seem to know who they are over here.
I first stumbled across the band on Spotify a few months ago, and have since become obsessed with probably their most popular song, 'Radioactive'.
This song seems to be a hybrid of every possible genre of music, but it works brilliantly and is so enjoyable to listen to. The vocals are very rocky, which contrasts with the backbeats and basslines which are futuristic and quite 'dubstep'. But then you listen to 'It's Time' and it seems like a completely different band. It's a song you can imagine in the Top 40 (I do mean this as a compliment, despite the mockery that's been made of chart music of late) and being really popular across all ages.
It hasn't been easy for the band to break into the industry; the group have been performing together for over 6 years, yet didn't really 'make it' until the release of their debut EP Continued Silence with a major label. Now, with the upcoming release of their first full-length album, frontman Dan Reynolds' excitement is more than understandable:
“We feel that we have finally created something we are all truly proud of and that can hopefully inspire others and help them feel a little less alone. That’s what music is about. It’s the greatest communicator I know.”
Night Visions is a very experimental first album, which may be a distraction for first time listeners. Emotional lyrics are interwoven with raw percussion and acoustic sets, but then propelled by the use of synthetic sound systems, ensuring it fits the 'sound' of 2013 perfectly. Some tracks can be easily be mistaken for The Killers, highlighting the capacity for success Imagine Dragons has.
I strongly recommend listening to Imagine Dragons, they've quickly become the band I go to when I just want to sit and listen to music, and I will jump at the chance to see them live if they release any dates in the North of England any time soon; their live talent is undoubtable from their performance of 'Radioactive' on The David Letterman show.

Great post about an awesome band! You definitely caught the magic they have in your words. Personally I love "On Top of the World", which just feels like a fairy tale song to me. =)
