I recently gained a Twitter follower (highlight of my day, always). Dune (aka Jade McRae), from Melbourne, Australia, followed me and as per usual, I had a snoop on her Twitter feed and discovered a SoundCloud link. I was meant to be revising, but everyone loves a bit of procrastination now and again! It's crazy that someone on the other half of the world would want to follow me on Twitter, but I'm so glad Dune did because I can't stop listening to her!
I was really impressed by the music I found on her SoundCloud, it reminds me of a lot of music the likes of Annie Mac play on Radio One with its tribal rhythms and vintage quality, and has the perfect potential to be remixed for a summer anthem. My personal favourite from the SoundCloud collection is the original version of 'Oh Innocence', although some of the remixes are interesting too! 'Shoestring' really stands out too, it has an oriental kind of vibe to start with and has an unbelievably catchy beat (which I'm sure will be in my head all day!). It also has this bit in the middle which reminds me of old school Timbaland/Nelly Furtado/JT for some reason, which I love!
I really like the vocals of Dune, she has a similar tone to Nelly Furtado (before she went a bit crazy and released 'Big Hoops').
Dune fits in with the 'in' sound of the moment, having similarities with the likes of AlunaGeorge, Duke Dumont and Disclosure. I can imagine a lot of people my age would love her sound if she had the opportunity to be exposed over here in the UK.
