SPOILER ALERT: If you haven't watched the final episode of Broadchurch and don't want to know who the killer is, do NOT read on!
Well, after 8 weeks wait, it was finally revealed who killed Danny Latimer. But, like many others (according to the Twitter-sphere anyway), I felt a lack of closure at the conclusion.
Joe Miller, doting husband of DS Ellie Miller (above left), turned himself in, despairing "I can't hide any more" as he was found in his shed by DI Alec Hardy (above right) through tracing Danny's lost mobile phone.
Now, it wasn't the person who was guilty that got me - I guessed it was Joe weeks ago, although I must admit I didn't guess the weird grooming relationship he had with Danny, that did freak me out a bit - no, what got me was the fact the killer was revealed halfway through the concluding episode, and without any kind of struggle/police chase! Where's the fun in that?!
Once this was revealed and the show went to an advert, I was at a loss as to where it was going to go from there. I psyched myself up in the hope that there would be a monumental twist towards the end of the episode, which would leave us all in awe for the next month. Unfortunately, this didn't happen and so I still feel a sense of indifference or maybe even underwhelmed that the resolution.
I just don't buy that Joe was in love with Danny - it is far too far-fetched and creepy to be realistic! Even though I did guess it was Joe, I believed that he had killed Danny in defense of his son Tom after it was revealed Danny and Tom had fallen out. That would have been much more plausible, do you not think?
Despite this, I really appreciated how realistic Olivia Coleman made Ellie's reaction to the discovery that her husband was a (kind of) paedophile. If I had just found out someone I loved was in love with an 11 year old boy, I think I would also throw up before going in and kicking the shit out of him! I must say that I almost cried at the despair of DS Ellie Miller, it was truly heartbreaking to watch. She seemed to lose her whole life, including her best friend Beth (who I thought was quite unfair). When Beth came over to Ellie on the field after the revelation of Danny's killer, I hoped that Beth would give Ellie a big hug and comfort her, but no. She just looked at her in disgust and asked "how could you have not known?". Quite a clever question to ask considering Ellie's judgement of Susan a few episodes ago when she didn't believe Susan didn't know about her husband's sexual abuse of their daughters, but still brutally harsh.
From this post, it might seem that I didn't enjoy Broadchurch. This is completely wrong. I loved Broadchurch. Only, before the 'naff ' conclusion which didn't really offer closure. The cast throughout the series, and the numerous twists which led the audience to suspect almost everybody in the town, were phenomenal. Consequently, I am still thrilled that there has been a second series of Broadchurch commissioned by ITV. However, I will be severely disappointed if it doesn't star Tennant and Coleman, my new dream-team! Unfortunately, from the finale of Series One, it seems that both characters are exiting the town of Broadchurch. So where can the second series go?
My theory is that the second series will act as a prequel to the first, and document Hardy's time at Sandbrooke. The only downfall to this theory is that we pretty much know what happens due to Hardy's interview with Ollie for the newspaper!

Do any of you have any other theories for Series Two? Let me know in the comments below!
