Introducing: Sugarpuss.
Take one look at the name of this band and the name of their debut EP - Psychotic Teenage Supermodels - and you wouldn't be criticised for thinking Sugarpuss are some hardcore crazy young band with no limits. A pleasant surprise, on listening to their collection, is they are not nearly as crazy as first anticipated. They're actually the perfect mix between pop and rock which is so popular right now, with bands such as Foster The People and Two Door Cinema Club.
It's refreshing to find a band which doesn't rely too heavily on the futuristic synths which are so popular in today's music scene; instead, Sugarpuss rely solely on brilliant vocals, acoustic guitars and a bit of light percussion. They sometimes make their songs really authentic by adding some group clapping for the beat and a harmonica! I don't know if it's possible to get any more chilled.
I have fallen in love with the song 'Falling Outta Love'. It was a love at first listen kind of moment, the
introductory modern synthetic keyboard tones captivated me and I haven't stopped listening to it since. It also has some brilliant optimistic lyrics which appeal to the young generation - if only falling out of love really was fun! The band present a very modern, nonchalant attitude (though, in the good way!). Why stress so much when we've got the whole of our lives ahead of us?
The EP, as a whole, has the perfect chilled out vibe for summer; listening to 'Drinking Alone' as I write this, I'm envisaging a warm summery day in the garden with music, food, and a good book! Much better than the reality at the moment: deceivingly breezy for the amount of sun there is!
This song also reminds me of my phenomenal experience at Leeds Fest last year; I can definitely picture Sugarpuss on the NME stage in the upcoming years!

The EP is also available to buy on bandcamp, for only $5.
